Code Geass: All the Latest News and Updates for 2021 Fans of the Code Geass series have been eagerly awaiting news on the sequel for years now, but there’s been little to no news on the project. However, that doesn’t mean that fans haven’t been keeping up with all the latest news and updates. Here are some of the most important things to know about Code Geass:

  1. The Sequel is Still in Development There has been no confirmation as to when or even if Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion 2 will be released, but it is still in development. The original Code Geass anime aired from 2006-2007 and ended with a cliffhanger. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a sequel. There have been rumors that Sunrise may release a spin-off series called Code Geass R2 instead of a full sequel, but nothing has yet been confirmed.
  2. There Will Be New Characters Introduced in the Sequel One of the biggest questions surrounding Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion 2 is who will be appearing in it. Fans are eager to find out more about Lelouch’s sister Nunnally and new characters such as Cécile Gautier (the headmistress at Holy Britannian Empire’s prestigious Britannia Girls’ School). It is also rumored that there may be appearances by other characters from previous episodes of Code Geass such as Kallen Stadtfeld (Lelouch’s childhood friend) and Suzaku Kururugi (Lelouch’s rival). However, nothing has yet been confirmed so it’s still unclear who will make an appearance in this sequel.
  3. Sunrise Plans to Release More Anime Series After Code Geass: Lelouch of The Rebellion 2 Is Released Since there is no set release date for Code GeASS: Lelouch Of The Rebellion 2, Sunrise plans ..

In February 2019, Sunrise studio released a movie called Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection. Season 1 aired back on October 6, 2006, and the second season was released on April 6, 2008. Both seasons 1 and 2 had 25 episodes each, and the anime was huge among anime lovers. Almost all the people who watched the show fell in love with it because of its amazing content and appeal. Here is everything you need to know about a possible third season of ‘Code Geass.’

Everything We Know So Far About Code Geass Season 2

Season 1 of the anime was released in 2006, and a second season chased its success in 2008.

This much we know. The closest fans came to taste a possible season 3 was an anime movie titled “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Resurrection”.

This one was released on February 9, 2019. Every fan knows that if they don’t hear anything in five years, chances are it’s never going to happen.

This directly ties in with nearly every season-based anime series that’s ever aired. There’s a small chance season 3 can happen, but we’re going to have to wait to find out.

Granted, it’s been a decade or so waiting for news, but there is no official cancellation, so that’s probably a good thing where the Code Geass show is concerned.

Let’s explore the odds for season 3, odds that are quite in favor of the franchise.

Fans might probably hear something good this year or in 2022.

The Unforgettable And Complex Plot Of Code Geass Seasons 1 And 2

The entire story is set in an alternate fictional reality ruled by three superpowers.

The Holy Britannian Empire (comprising the Americas, and also called Britannia) are the strongest of the trio.

The other two are the European Union (comprising Europe and Africa) and the Chinese Federation (all of Asia, including Japan).

The series’ plotline technically begins in the year 2010.

Using sizeable robots called ‘Knightmare Frames’, the Chinese Federation invades an unprepared Japan and annexes them by force.

They rename the nation ‘Area 11’ and call all its residents ‘Elevens’. The aristocratic Lelouch vi Britannia enters this tale.

Son of the former Britannian Emperor Charles Zi Britannia and his royal consort Marianne vi Britannia, the boy lives in exile.

The history that led up to the boy’s exiled status is profound and dark in the political sense.

When Lelouch was still a baby, his mother Marianne was gruesomely killed. The boy’s sister, Nunnally vi Britannia, was the only real witness to the deed.

She was so traumatized that she lost her ability to walk as well as her eyesight.

The Britannian emperor who held fast to the country’s reins dispatched both his children, Lelouch and Nunnally, to Japan.

He made political envoys out of them in the hopes of placating Japan’s rising suspicions against the Empire.

In the meantime, the emperor was secretly prepping to invade Japan. Lelouch never forgot nor forgave his father for not finding his mother’s murderer and bringing them to justice.

When the invasion of Japan begins, the boy realizes his father’s true ambitions and grows enraged.

He vows to his dearest friend Suzaku Kururugi that he will find a way to end the Holy Britannian Empire’s tyranny at whatever cost.

It is seven years before fans see a ‘Lelouch Lamperouge’ coming on the scene. The boy has grown into a young man and apparently changed his name.

He’s pursuing an education at Ashford Academy. Aloof and preoccupied, the brilliant Lelouch is always silently strategizing ways to overthrow the Empire.

It comes as no surprise that when a major terrorist attack occurs against the Empire, Lelouch is part of the radical group.

A girl called simply C. C. or C2 saves him from a Royal Britannian Guard.

This mysterious girl also grants him a supernatural ability. Called ‘Geass’, the ability grants Lelouch the ‘Power of Kings’.

He can command anyone to do anything, and they will be powerless to resist his word.

Lelouch wholeheartedly delves into his newfound Geass powers, aiming to use it to definitively turn the tide in Japan’s favor.

He remembers the promise he made to Suzaku, thus keeping his intentions from growing corrupt.

He rekindles his original desire to annihilate the Empire and bring his mother’s killer(s) to justice.

He dons a new identity, calls himself ‘Zero, wears a mask to stay secure, and establishes the radical ‘Black Knights’ group.

The Japanese people gradually understand and accept his resistance band.

The citizens soon start supporting and relying on the Black Knights to bring them freedom from the cruel Empire.

The wheels of war are thus set in motion, with Lelouch at the helm, his Knights shoring up his resolve, and the Japanese people inspiring his will.

Plenty of unpredictable changes take place along the way, including the shocking moment when Lelouch is left little choice but to fight his friend Suzaku – the selfsame Suzaku to whom he made a promise to rid Japan of the Empire’s machinations.

Lelouch also faces up against his half-sibling, to say nothing of the fact that he is constantly at war against the greatest army in the world intent on keeping the Holy Britannian Empire in power.

Official Announcements And Release Date For Code Geass Season 3

Neither Studio Sunrise nor any of the show’s affiliated partners/creators/producers have confirmed a season 3.

What they DID confirm, for 2021, is a series titled “Code Geass: Z of the Recapture”.

In the franchise so far we have an anime series “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” with 2 seasons, a film trilogy (Initiation, Transgression, and Glorification), a new movie “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection, and now a new series “Code Geass: Z of the Recapture” in the announcement.

We might not see any series come up this year anyway, so fans might need to hold on to hope for news in 2022. We are also waiting for blood lad season 2 and drifters season 2.

We’ll definitely update this article as soon as we receive good news.

More Source Material Information On Code Geass Season 3

As with almost all hit anime shows, they trace their artistic roots to the manga that captured their essence and showcased it to an eager anime audience.

When the Code Geass manga was first published on August 24, 2006, little did its writers Gorou Taniguchi and Ichiro Okouchi fathom just how far their budding franchise would grow.

Illustrated by ‘Majiko!’ the Code Geass manga series was a hit that dwindled to a respectable finish on February 24, 2010.

List of the different manga adaptions in the Code Geass franchise:

Code Geass: Lelouch of the RebellionCode Geass: Suzaku of the CounterattackCode Geass: Nightmare of NunnallyCode Geass: Tales of an Alternate ShogunateCode Geass: Renya of DarknessCode Geass: Oz the ReflectionCode Geass: OZ the Reflection O2Code Black: Lelouch of the Shred Guitar

But the anime creators didn’t wait until then to make a season one.

Observing the rising attraction of the manga, they made Code Geass Season 1 in 2006 itself – It released on October 6 that year.

Season 2 became an obvious thing to do after that, and it was released on April 6, 2008.

So what gives? Both seasons were a hit, just like their manga originator. Where’s season 3?

Fans demand to know!

Expected Plot Of Code Geass Season 3

We can certainly not expect anything less than the best for this one. They ended season 2 on a bloody (in more ways than one) cliffhanger.

Every fan worth their Geass-salt wants to see matters resolved not just between characters but in the overall story-arc too.

So season 3, even if they decide to make it a finale, needs to bring its A-game.

Why Do Fans Want Code Geass Season 3 So Desperately?

As mentioned earlier, plenty of unresolved character arcs are in need of resolving. Also, the way they chose to end season 2 was shocking, in a good way.

They certainly have not concluded the series yet, if that ending is anything to judge by, leaving fans desperate for a season 3 to bring them closure and enlightenment.

Ratings And Awards Won So Far By Code Geass Series

We found this nifty display on Ratingraph (the website) that sums up the average episodic ratings of the Code Geass show.

The show currently enjoys an 8.6/10 rating on IMDB with 53,136 viewers having submitted their vote, as of this writing.

No ‘note’ has been made for a season 3 on IMDB either, meaning nothing official is in the works…yet.

But that can change based on several factors, so fans needn’t lose hope…yet.

Code Geass has a 4.7/5 average rating on Crunchyroll from 146 registered voters.

A plethora of reviews for the series stand at a steady 5-star rating there.

As for awards, let’s just say the show is no stranger to renown and recognition at major award festivals like the Tokyo International Anime Fair, Animation Kobe, and Animage Anime Grand Prix.

The series’ voice acting has earned special recognition too, and the storyline has won critical acclaim.

Profit And Sales Details Of Code Geass Season 3

One of the most important factors that decide the future of an anime IP is profitability. Let’s explore what’s happening on that front…

Manga And Light Novels Sales

6 distinct manga series exist for the Code Geass franchise. They’re adaptations of the show itself.

The show inspired millions of book copies to practically fly off the shelves.

In order of reading…

Two series have been published corresponding to the two existing seasons of the show. Also, “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” comprises 5 volumes, numbered 0-5, and was published during 2007-2008.

Famous Characters Who Could Reappear In Code Geass Season 3

Most fans of this series will state a few obvious names off the top of their heads.

Season 3, if it does happen, will see the following favorites returning to the screen.

All hell will break loose if they don’t J.

Lelouch Lamperouge

The exiled Prince of Britannia is most assuredly the focal character of the Code Geass anime.

It was outstanding watching him grow from a helpless boy living a life of privilege to a revolutionary messiah who was willing to do what it took to counter the threat of his father’s empire.

His affiliations in this show were a treat to watch. But most especially, the way he put his aims and goals above some people, no matter how dear they were to him, adds to the bold storytelling arc surrounding his character.

A potential season 3 will be dull without Lelouch “Zero” Lamperouge. Judging by the way season 2 ended, fans are hoping to see some sort of ‘saving grace’ take place regarding Lelouch Lamperouge.

C.C.

The very source of Lelouch’s Geass powers came from the girl called C.C.

In many ways, she was part of Lelouch’s glorious character arc, making her quite significant in the show going forward.

She serves Lelouch’s Black Knights resistance group in countless ways.

There is plenty of mystery shrouding this character, adding to the script potential when it comes to exploring various plot arcs surrounding C.C.

A nun originally granted her the Geass power, which means this supernatural skill is transferable.

Having escaped slavery, C. C. spent time with that nun, eventually gaining immortality through the Geass.

This proves just how many crucial story bridges C. C. connects, and should most definitely be there in season 3.

Suzaku Kururugi

Not only is Suzaku Lelouch’s childhood friend, but he’s also the son of Japan’s last serving Prime Minister.

He was promised freedom, for the Japanese people and the country itself, by Lelouch when the Britannian Prince-in-exile learned of his Empiric father’s plans to invade.

It was shocking and unsettling to see Suzaku join the Empire and earn the status of Honorary Britannian.

But he was never a ‘bad guy’, not by far. He tried to change the Empire from within, and fans saw that in the way Suzaku pursued justice and progressive governance even after his shift in allegiance.

He comes back to Lelouch and his cause, further adding to the development value of this character in the show.

Sadly, things turn dark between the boys. Suzaku blames Lelouch’s rebellion for the death of the girl he loved.

This makes Suzaku vow to kill him. SPOILER AHEAD! Fans witnessed slack-jawed when the season-2 finale revealed Lelouch insisting Suzaku to become ‘Zero’ by claiming the power of Geass from him.

Lelouch willingly accepts death to ensure this. What happens next is profound in so many ways, most certainly making Suzaku a central character in a possible season 3.

Kallen Stadtfeld

This character is important for two major reasons. She has one foot in Britannia and another in Lelouch’s resistance.

A Japanese turned Britannian, she was originally born ‘Karen Kouzuki’. Following the Empire’s occupation of Japan, she changed her name to ‘Kallen Stadtfeld’.

Her dual life, time spent at the Ashford Academy, and underground resistance activities as part of the Black Knights all make her a significant character with whom the show’s creators can work scripting magic if they so choose.

Ending Of Code Geass Season 2

GIGANTIC SPOILER, SCROLL SWIFTLY PAST IF NEEDED!

The show ended on a particularly shocking cliff-hanger, with Suzaku taking Lelouch’s life and consequently inheriting his Geass powers.

Plenty of crucial emotional character arcs led to that moment. You can now imagine just how important season 3 will be for fans seeking resolution or closure, or both.

Conclusion – Will Code Geass Season 3 Really Release?

The show is a hit, no doubt about it. Code Geass has been top on fan-favorite lists all over the world, and it has not lost its appeal one bit.

Given the state of real-life geopolitics today, the show’s narrative holds that much more significance and meaning.

A season 3 needs to happen for multiple reasons, one of which is common storytelling decency.

To the studio behind the show, we say, “You started a great thing, you have a great thing going, don’t stop now, don’t you dare.”
