What has happened in Akashic Records and Bastard Magic Instructor?

Alzano Imperial Magic Academy, one of the most prestigious schools in the Alzano Empire. The academy offers magic classes with some of the most renowned magicians. Rumia Tingel, Sistine Fibel, and Rumia Tingel, her best friend, are determined to improve their magical skills. Sistine wants to fulfill her grandfather’s wish to uncover the secrets surrounding a floating castle.

Everything changes when their beloved professor is gone and replaced by Glenn Radars. This substitute teacher has no redeeming qualities. He is rude, lazy, and quite perverse on the side. Rumia is more open to the newcomer than Sistine, who is annoyed by her new lecturer’s low standards.

Rumia, a princess, was the only survivor in an attack by evil wizards. She also remembers Glenn saving them that fateful day. Her unique power, Amplificator, is something underground groups want to grab for themselves. However, when the story begins, it turns out that she is hiding a fake identity.

The situation quickly changes when the Academy is attacked and beaten by an ex-instructor who goes insane. To defeat the enemy, Glenn must reveal his true strength and identity. He is actually “The Fool”, a former assassin who was part of the Imperial Court Mage Corps and is consumed by the remorses from his past. Glenn, Rumia and Sistine are linked by events that have been connected to their pasts and goals. Forces in the shadow constantly surround them. Re-L, an artificial person Glenn adopted while he was in the military, will eventually join them.

What’s the deal with Liden Films ?

The Akashic Records of Bastard Wizard Instructor was launched on April 4, and concluded on June 20, 2017. Minato Kazuto is the director. Toko Machida wrote the script. Hiroaki Tsutsumi composed the music. The anime aired for twelve episodes. It was adapted from the light novel.

Cliches and tropes in this genre are common. Fanservice is present in every episode. The setting is a magical high-school. Characters adopt certain traits based on their roles. RokuAka isn’t immune to being exploited in a way that could endanger the series. Although it isn’t great, the show is enjoyable to watch.

Even though there are several shots used, the animation is simple and clean. The special effects for magic are also easy to see. It is similar to the character design in the light novels. These designs have been seen a hundred times. The only thing that isn’t disconcerting about the entire outfit for a stripper is the girl uniform. Because most of the action is in the Academy, the world-building is somewhat limited.

The magic system is well explained and perfectly aligned to the rules of each world where the characters live. The characters are guided by their archetypes but each character has their own goal which adds to their character.

The story moves at a fast pace, maybe too fast. A lot of the plot gets lost in translation because the storytelling is too fast. It feels like viewers are watching Glenn save the day over and over again. However, the motives behind the bad guys attacks are unclear, if not non-existent. The anime lacks elements from the light novels. This gives it a feeling of emptiness that doesn’t predict the outcome. RokuAka can be described as mindless entertainment and will suffice if you just need something to entertain.

Linde Films is currently working on multiple projects: “Deji”, Meets Girl; Built Divide; a new season of Saiyuki Reload; DiGi Charat; and the movie Child of Kamiari Month.
