How many seasons of Fruits Basket are there?
There are currently three seasons of Fruits Basket that have been made. Each season has about 25 episodes except for the third season, which will have no more than 13 episodes.
Fruits Basket Season 4 Release Date
‘Fruits Basket’ season 3 (also known as ‘Fruits Basket: The Final’) premiered on April 6, 2021, and aired 13 episodes before ending on June 29, 2021. The season’s first episode was pre-screened in Japan on March 13, 2021, and on Funimation on March 19, 2021. Studio TMS Entertainment (‘Dr. Stone’) developed the anime in collaboration with its subsidiary 8PAN. Yoshihide Ibata helmed the directorial team, and Taku Kishimoto led the writing staff. As for season 4, this is what we know.
As the title suggests, ‘Fruits Basket: The Final’ concludes Tooru’s story, at least for now. After all, the 2019 anime is not the first adaptation of Takaya’s original work. The manga series was also adapted in 2001 for a 26-episode anime that aired from July 5, 2001, to December 27, 2001. So, there is always a possibility for another adaptation. Takaya concluded the original series after publishing 23 volumes between July 18, 1998, and November 20, 2006, and has since expanded the ‘Fruits Basket’ universe with the spin-off manga series, ‘Fruits Basket Another’ and ‘Fruits Basket: The Three Musketeers Arc.’
The first project follows the next generation of Soumas, including Hajime, one of Tooru and Kyou’s three children. ‘Three Musketeers’ is about three of the older Soumas from the original series, Shigure, Ayame, and Hatori. Future projects can potentially be developed from these aforementioned materials as well.
However, the producers have a different plan for the immediate future. In a video celebrating the final episode of ‘Fruits Basket’ season 3, it was revealed that a project revolving around Tooru’s parents, titled ‘Kyouko to Katsuya no Monogatari,’ is currently in development. This means that the project is set to adapt the subplot from volume 16 of the original manga series, explaining why that part was omitted from the 2019 anime. However, no official announcement has been yet made about the upcoming project’s format or duration. Miyuki Sawashiro and Yoshimasa Hosoya are set to return to lend their voices to their respective characters, Kyouko and Katsuya. ‘Kyouko to Katsuya no Monogatari,’ which can be regarded as ‘Fruits Basket’ season 4, is slated to release sometime in 2022. A stage-play adaptation of Takaya’s manga is also set to come out in the same year.

Fruits Basket Season 4 Plot: What Can It Be About?
In the season finale, Tooru and Kyou leave to begin their life together in a different city. Yuki gives Machi a key to his apartment. Rin can’t bring herself to forgive Akito for the things the latter has done, while Momiji expresses his desire to find someone like Tooru someday. Hatori asks Mayuko to go on a vacation with him to Okinawa, and Shigure moves in with Akito. Life goes on for the Soumas and the other characters, as each embarks on their respective adventure. The episode ends by showing much older Tooru and Kyo taking a stroll together, hand in hand.
In ‘Kyouko to Katsuya no Monogatari,’ the story will likely focus on the relationship between Kyouko and Katsuya. It might depict Kyouko as an infamous teenage delinquent, the head of an all-female Bōsōzoku gang named Red Butterfly Suicide Squad, who develops romantic feelings for her middle-school student-teacher Katsuya. Kyouko’s strained relationship with her parents might also be depicted.
