Rikido Sato is a Japanese martial artist who has been credited with helping to popularize karate in the United States. He is also known for his unique style of self-defense, which he calls “kenjutsu.” Sato was born in Hiroshima, Japan in 1954. After studying at the University of Tokyo, he began practicing karate in the early 1970s. In 1984, he moved to the United States and began teaching at the University of California, Davis. In 1990, Sato founded his own school, Rikido Dojo. Sato’s techniques are based on a system of self-defense that he calls “kenjutsu.” This system uses quick and powerful strikes to defend oneself from attack. His techniques are designed to protect both himself and others from harm. Sato has won many awards including two World Championships and five American Championships in karate. He is also a member of the International Karate Federation (IKF).

He likes pastries. The “Riki” in “Rikido”, is written with an ideogram that denotes “strength”, while the “Sa”, of “Sato”, has the meaning of “sugar”. Rikido was 12th in the alter aptitude exam. Rikido is 12th in the class for grades.
